Tender and memorable, Book of Lost Threads is a story about love and loss, mothers and children, hope, faith and the importance of kindness.
Moss has run away from Melbourne, a loving home and her university studies. She's on the trail of her father, a man she doesn't know but whose name she has seen once on a legal contract between him and her two mothers. Finn, the reluctant 'dad', lives in rural Victoria, in a struggling small town called Opportunity. He has become a recluse, and his life is one of solitary quietness, as he tries to come to terms with the guilt and shame of an old tragedy.
Next door to Finn lives Lily Pargetter, widow, age 83 and still carrying the pain of losing her stillborn baby many years ago, who occupies herself knitting tea cosies for the United Nations. Lily's nephew, Sandy, is the town buffoon, who successfully plays the stock market while the neighbouring farmers watch their labour literally turn to dust in their hands.
It is only as Moss, Finn, Lily and Sandy develop unlikely friendships that they find a way to lay their sorrows to rest and knit together the threads that will restore them to life.
